Timing chains are like timing belts in that they keep the major
components of the engine's combustion cycle in sync.
Timing chains are much
more durable then timing belts and have
to be
changed less frequently.
While
timing belts are changed anywhere from every 40-90K miles
(see your owners
manual),
most timing chains are suitable for hundreds of thousands of miles
unless a specific event (like excessive noise, etc.) has occurred.
